Every once in awhile I get inspired to work on a project outside of just sewing samples for classes. Over the summer, I decided to recreate a dress that I had borrowed from a friend. I set about finding a good fabric to match as well as finding a pattern that would give me the best results.

I found the Nova pattern by: Oh Me Oh My Sewing (whose patterns I have used in the past), and it seemed to fit what I needed! So off to Joann’s I went and I found a beautiful green floral fabric that had just enough fabric left on the bolt for this project.

The project was a success considering I had never tried shirring fabric before sewing this dress, and I almost never sew for myself!

Seeing how the dress turned out about two months later I decided to see if I could make a version of this as a top with long sleeves. The pattern that I was following was easy enough the second time but it didn’t come with a long sleeve version so I reached out to the pattern maker and following her advice and some guesstimation I was able to figure it out! I ended up filming a reel showing some aspects of how I put the top together.
