Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about Primrose Sewing

What is Primrose Sewing?

Primrose Sewing is a small business in Franklin, TN owned by a 21-year-old entrepreneur and offers sewing classes, workshops, individual lessons, and summer day camps to young students ages 6 – 18 years old.

Who is Abby?

She is a mature, responsible, and creative entrepreneur! She’s been sewing since the age of 3 (needle and thread) and since first grade with a sewing machine. She launched the business at the age of 15 in July 2017, and to date (January 2023), has taught more than 715 students in classes, workshops, camps, individual lessons, and birthday parties! Abby has won countless ribbons at the County and State Fairs – including a Best of Show for the Youth Division. She recently completed her bachelor of business degree in entrepreneurship.

Can you tell me more about the sewing environment?

The sewing studio is a happy place where all students can develop their creative talents, meet new friends, learn the life skill of sewing, and appreciate Abby for being a real life role model! Sewing is never a race, and we never compete against each other. We emphasize individual effort, we encourage each other, we take pride in our accomplishments, and we treat each other kindly.

What does my child need to bring to a class, workshop, or camp?

Your child should bring a great attitude, a willingness to learn, and an expectation to have fun! We provide everything else.

What kind of snacks are provided?

About midway through each sewing time, we provide a small bottle of water and a choice of Goldfish Crackers, Cheez-Its, or Mott’s Fruit Snacks in individual packages. Students may bring a small snack from home, if preferred, like pretzels, plain popcorn, or a protein bar. Students can use hand sanitizer or wash their hands in the bathroom before we eat our snacks.

What kind of service projects do the students sew?

Primrose Sewing believes that students can use their sewing skills to benefit others. The students sew a service project during one of the six weeks of seasonal classes. To date, students have sewn cat beds and dog bandanas for the animal center, pillowcases for firefighters, blankets for pediatric patients and babies, fleece hats for homeless men, mug rugs for the elderly, all-class quilts for charity, pillows for foster children, military appreciation cards, joey pouches and blankets for the zoo! We welcome your comments and ideas!

Can my student participate in the County and State Fairs?

Absolutely! We encourage students to enter their best items – sewn entirely by themselves – into area fair competitions. There is usually no cost to enter. Abby and her students have won dozens of ribbons and cash prizes in recent years! Ask us for details to register. Typically the county and state fair deadlines are in early August.

How do is the Primrose Sewing Studio kept as germ-free as possible?

At the end of each class, workshop, or camp, students use anti-bacterial clothes to wipe down the sewing machines and supplies. We also spray Lysol on the supplies to eliminate any germs.

What are the costs to participate with Primrose Sewing?

Typically, a six-week class (two hours per week for a total of 12 sewing hours) costs $175 plus a supply fee and includes everything – sewing machines, fabrics, supplies, instructions, and snacks. A seasonal workshop costs between $40-65 depending on the project for a one-time sewing experience of 2 – 3 hours. A week of Summer Day Camp (five days for three hours per day – morning or afternoon – for a total of 15 hours of sewing) typically costs about $195 per student plus a supply fee per week and includes everything.

How are the photos taken during the sewing time used?

We take lots of photos! We send Google photo album links to parents periodically, so they can see the sewing adventures in action. We also use selected photos for social media and advertising purposes. We don’t publicly use the names of our students without permission. We honor requests for students not to be photographed.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Primrose Sewing fully expects every student to have an exceptional experience while sewing with us! We expect parents to be financially committed when registering through the Williamson County Parks & Recreation website. Our cancellation policy is identical to WCPR.

What are the Sew-It-Myself Kits?

“Sew-It-Myself” Kits encourage students to continue their sewing skills at home. We have kits available for sale on site which include all fabrics, some supplies, and instructions for a student to sew a Doll Quilt, Pocket Pillow, Mug Rugs, and a Stuffed Bunny as well as a Grab Bag Kit which includes an assortment of fabric with a hand-stitching kit. Please ask us for more information.
