I can’t believe that the last time I sat down to write a list of my favorite sewing machines was almost six years ago! I was 15 years old and brand new to teaching but was getting asked what kinds of sewing machines parents should buy for their kids. My opinions have changed quite a bit since then, and now I only recommend the Singer Patchwork or the Singer Stylist for a slightly more budget-friendly version. These machines have everything that a seamstress (or tailor) could want in a mid-level sewing machine with room to grow with them as their skills improve. They have a speed control function that I especially like for my students as it keeps them from going too fast when they are still learning proper hand placement. They both come with a variety of feet and 100 different stitch options even though we use the basic foot and a straight stitch for 99% of our sewing. For special projects it’s fun to have different stitch options to use for a finishing or top stitch!

I offer sewing machine consultations that explain how to properly set up the machine and what all the different dials and buttons do. These are for my students and those in the local Franklin, TN area. Send us an email and we would be happy to answer any questions you have!
